The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), with more than 50,000 members, fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge and provides leadership in the advancement of the chemical engineering profession. Its Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) brings together manufacturers, insurers, government agencies, academia, and expert consultants to improve manufacturing process safety. CCPS publishes one of the best collections of process safety books in the world, and that collection is available as part of the Knovel Library.
Knovel has just released four additional titles from AIChE/CCPS. These four titles are part of the CCPS Premium Content collection, which requires a separate subscription from the Safety, Health & Hygiene Subject Area. The CCPS collection contains 50 titles devoted to the topic of chemical process safety and the prevention of accidents due to chemical reactions. Those with an active subscription to this Premium collection have immediate access to these new titles as part of their subscription.
Concentration Fluctuations and Averging Time in Vapor Clouds
Copyright (c) 1995, AIChE/CCPS, part of CCPS Premium Content collection. This reference contributes to more reliable and realistic predictions by focusing on sampling times from a few seconds to a few hours. Its objectives include developing clear definitions of statistical terms, such as plume sampling time, concentration averaging time, receptor exposure time, and other terms often confused with each other or incorrectly specified in hazard assessments; identifying and quantifying situations for which there is no adequate knowledge to predict concentration fluctuations in the near-field, close to sources, and far downwind where dispersion is dominated by atmospheric turbulence; identifying areas where further information is required to define concentration variability statistics; and formulating an operation model for concentration fluctuations based on the current state of knowledge of dispersion processes.
Guidelines for Consequence Analysis of Chemical Releases
Copyright (c) 1999, AIChE/CCPS, part of CCPS Premium Content collection. This reference provides technical information on how to conduct a consequence analysis to satisfy your company's needs and EPA's rules. It covers quantifying the size of a release, dispersion of vapor clouds to an endpoint concentration, outcomes for various types of explosions and fires, and the effect of the release on people and structures.
Guidelines for Process Safety Fundamentals in General Plant Operations
Copyright (c) 1995, AIChE/CCPS, part of CCPS Premium Content collection. This important reference covers safety procedures and standards with information that is rarely available outside of proprietary materials. A comprehensive source for basic and essential operations and procedures in use in any facility, this title offers chemical operators and first line supervisors guidance in applying appropriate practices to prevent accidents, and suggests which practices to avoid.
Guidelines for Safe Process Operations and Maintenance
Copyright (c) 1995, AIChE/CCPS, part of CCPS Premium Content collection. First-line managers have to maintain the integrity of facilities, control manufacturing processes, and handle unusual or emergency situations, as well as respond to the pressures of production demand. On a daily basis, they are closest to the operating personnel who may be injured by a process accident, and they are in the best position to spot problem conditions and to act to contain them. This title offers these managers "how-to" information on process safety management program execution in the operations and maintenance departments, recommending technical and administrative process safety activities for the entire life cycle of the plant. Helpful tables and references make this title a valuable process safety resource.
